Do you think soccer will ever catch on in this country? It seems like each season, there are more sports pundits that are getting into soccer (specifically overseas soccer). Bill Simmons (The Sports Guy) is one of the newest high-profile converts.
Obviously, the MLS is a ways off from being an elite league when compared to the world stage, but it seems like more and more people are turning to the English Premier League. It's an easy transition to make. It's broadcast in English (no language barrier) and most of the coaches and players speak English. So it's easier to follow. Not to mention, there is no shortage of media coverage.
ESPN seems to be broadcasting more soccer matches every season, and now there's Fox Soccer Channel — totally devoted to bringing the viewers soccer action from the U.S. and around the world.
Does anyone think it will catch on? Sure, it likely will never be as big as the NFL, but do you think it will, say, take over hockey as the unofficial No. 4 sport?
