Kayaking near San Francisco
THE LAZY DAYS OF SUMMER seem to be made for lounging by the pool or kicking back at the beach. But here are a five ways you can spend your summer days that maybe you haven’t thought of:
5. Mountain Biking: You’ll get a helluva workout on the way, and a thrilling ride on the way down. Be sure to find a hill that matches your skill level. Also remember, the harder you work on the way up, the faster the ride is on the way down.
4. Sailing: Sure, many people take to a boat to enjoy a summer’s day. But most of those involve more motoring around than actual activity. How about trying boating a little more in the classic sense. Signing up for lessons, getting a charter or renting are options here.
3. Camping: Sure, you might have tied this before. But there are so many ways to make it a different experience. If you’ve never gone, try out car camping. You can pull right up to the site and keep your car nearby … just in case. If you’re ready to take it to the next level, try out a national forest where you’re allowed to go by dispersed camping. Park your car at the trailhead and hike your way in.
2. Surfing: It’s probably the most clichĂ© of summer activities, but the fact of the matter is most haven’t even tried it. Sure, access to the ocean may be limited for the vast majority. But if you get the chance to get anywhere near a wave or two, give it a try.
1. Kayaking: One of the best ways to explore on the water. On the open ocean, a lake or a river are possible destinations here. With rentals an option or buying your own for a few hundred bucks, kayaking could easily turn into a lifestyle.
