John M. Swartz: The site’s editor in chief. A career journalist, he graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in communication with a focus in media studies; other areas of education include English and philosophy. Born and raised in the southeastern United States, his career has taken him as far as northern California. With interests that range from a night in a suite in French Quarter New Orleans to pitching a tent in a remote corner of the Sierra Nevada, spending an evening watching an MMA Pay-Per-View or a Saturday morning soaking in a trifecta of English Premier League matches, Swartz strives to offer a variety of content. As always, comments, suggestions and even complaints can be sent to editor(at)themanfaq.com.
Mark J. Yates: When it comes to enjoying the nightlife or grilling in the back yard, Mark’s your guy. When it comes to pairing beer with food or figuring out the right tools for that home-improvement job, Mark always seems to know the right way to go. The Renaissance Man and consummate bachelor of the staff, Mark is our go-to guy for advice on movies, working out and just generally what the hell to do with a weekend. E-mail him at mark(at)themanfaq.com.
Christopher A. Stone: The Corner Post contributor who’s been in the sportswriting biz for 13 years. He’s covered games of all kinds for newspapers from Manassas, Va., to Bozeman, Mt. Literally. A 1996 Western Carolina graduate, Stone is currently the oldest person on staff at The Man F.A.Q., but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the wisest. Contact Christopher at cornerpost(at)themanfaq.com.
James Allorski is a Detroit native who went to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. He has a journalism degree, but isn’t sure why he wasted his money on that. However, he is a paid journalist, and covers some cool stuff sometimes. You probably haven’t seen his work. But if you have, you’ve undoubtedly been very impressed.
Dan Nied: A sportswriter based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dan likes to spout off about things from time to time. “If you knew me, you’d categorize me as the loudest guy in the room,” says Dan. “Since you probably don’t know me, I’ll just have to be the loudest guy on Blogger. But that doesn’t mean I am just shouting to shout. I have a point to make here. Which, of course, you’ll see as we go along.” Dan’s worked at newspapers and Web sites around the nation, but settled three years ago in California. He won seven Colorado Press Association awards for features, columns and event stories. He’s covered the NFL, MLB, NCAA and NHL, and a ton of high school games.
In Her Words: Another of the site’s career journalists. A graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism, she continued her education with a Masters in Journalism from Northwestern University. From covering crime beats in Chicago to city politics in northern California, she’s experienced the most grizzled situations but still finds the time to grace our pages with her columns on some of life’s lighter topics. E-mail her at inherwords(at)themanfaq.com.
